Fellowship in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition
The fellowship program at the Royal
Children’s Hospital in Gastroenterology, Clinical Nutrition and Transplantation
is comprehensive and the largest in Australia. It allows trainees access to all
aspects of clinical care at a tertiary and quaternary level. We are a state
centre for Liver Transplantation and the only National Center for Paediatric Multi-Visceral
Transplantation. We also have a dedicated Intestinal Failure Program. In
addition the department also provides a substantial service in IBD and CF for Victoria and Tasmania.
Fellowship
rotations will include inpatient and outpatient care. We run a very busy inpatient
consultative service and outpatient clinics [25 clinics a week covering
Clinical Nutrition, Hepatology, Luminal gastroenterology, IBD, CF and Pancreatic
diseases
Fellows will have access to training in
diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy [1500-2000 per year], Capsule endoscopy,
GI Motility. There are weekly ward rounds for IBD, Liver
transplant, Cystic Fibrosis and Clinical Nutrition. In addition to this, we have
a weekly CPC [including Journal club, Histopathology, Radiology and
Clinical/Research].
Instruction and teaching is provided by
our consultant team [13 Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists] with twice
weekly interactive sessions during and after hours that covers the curriculum
provided by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
